Spelling Procedures

Spelling Words will be pre-tested every Monday and there will be a test on the words every Friday. If a student gets every word correct on the pre-test, they will be excused from Spelling homework for the entire week, and from the test on Friday. Every Monday night for Spelling homework, the students will write each word they missed on the pre-test five times each. A list of the words can be found in the Spelling Practice Book.

LANGUAGE

This week's language skill is possesive pronouns.

We will have DOL's.

This week's Digging in the Dictionary words are prefer and attraction.

Dictionary practice will be done through an assignment called "Digging in the Dictionary." At the beginning of every week I assign to words for Digging in the Dictionary. The students have 8 quesitons they are to answer about these words. It is their earlier finisher for their blocks time and other work. Friday of each week, I pick up their work and grade it. There is always time throughout the day to work on this assignment.

We will also continue with DOL paragraphs. We will edit these paragraphs on our own. Please review proofreading marks with your child.

Please review cursive writing with your child. At the beginning of the Second Nine Weeks, we will begin to write everything in cursive. Please be sure that your child is doing their homework in cursive! Many students need additional help in this area.
