Part of the reading test is holistic and is NOT based on the weekly stories. Another part of the test is comprehension from the stories we read during the week, are used as vehicles for teaching reading skills and strategies. Research shows that students who read for 20 minutes or more daily do better on standardized reading and vocabulary tests. Reading for 20 minutes or more also helps with fluency, writing ablility, and comprehension.
